The trophies keep getting bigger for the Dirtbags.
The Dirtbags finished "National Runners Up" at the 17U World Wood Bat Championship in East Cobb, GA July 3-9. The playing field featured 110 of the top teams in the Nation and beyond. The Dirtbags reeled off 9 straight wins before falling 6-2 to the All American Prospects in the championship game of the 17U WWBA National Championship.
The Dirtbags were tied 2-2 in the top of the 7th inning before surrendering a leadoff walk and a hit by pitch. This led to a frustrating inning for the tournament number 2 seed as we gave up a 4-spot in the 7th.
"I could not be more proud of our three teams in this tournament. Our teams battled through adversity and really showed great character throughout this trying event. We feel privileged to have the opportunity to compete against the best teams in the Nation. We want to play in the final game every year and we will continue to work towards that goal every season," said Coach Andy Partin.
The Dirtbags finished 3rd in Fort Myers, FL out of 40-plus teams from across the USA for the Underclassman event back in October 2005 and finished 3rd in Jupiter, FL in the World Wood Bat Championship back in November 2005.
