Morgan O'Neal Coach |
Morgan O'Neal enters his first season with the Dirtbags. He will manage the 2010 Dirtbags in 2008.
O'Neal was an outstanding catcher at Louisburg College under legendary skipper Russ Frazier. He transferred to Elon University and worked under current Tulane University skipper Rick Jones. O'Neal is a very familiar face among college baseball coaches. He works numerous college baseball camps throughout the year and is well known for his "batting practice" throwing skills.
O'Neal was the head coach at Lawrence Academy for three years before becoming an assistant coach at East Carolina University under Coach Gary Overton. After his tenure with the Pirates, he went on to coach ten years at West Craven high school, five of those were as a head coach. He's currently an assistant coach at DH Conley high school working under current Dirtbag coach Jason Mills.
O'Neal resides in Eastern North Carolina with his 6-year old son Robbie (who is on pace to be the next Derek Jeter).
Coach Partin on O'Neal:
"This
is a great time in Dirtbag country. Coach O'Neal brings a tremendous amount of
enthusiasm and a blue
collar attitude to our club. He's got a great approach with players and he's a
good communicator. He's organized and he's got a presence with our players on the field and in
the dugout. We are really excited to have Coach O'Neal with us. He brings a
wealth of baseball knowledge and he brings numerous college coaching contacts.
He's one of the best hitting and catching guys around and he can teach the game.
He's the type of coach I would want my son to play for."
